You know sometimes, we want people to meet/exceed our expectations because we will be willing to do so much more for them.
If they don't meet our expectations, the usual reaction would be getting upset,withdrawing ourselves and love less.

That is because in any relationships, we seek a balance to feel satisfied.

The hard truth is doing less is the easy way out.

Know this, we give to receive, receive to give. The reciprocality is important in any form of relationships.

Today, instead of withdrawing/doing less to achieve the balance, one should try to be:

Better than best.
Improve and try to be better is always better than the stagnant best.
Let our best today be better than our best yesterday.

Such that when the imbalance is felt, equilibrium can be restored the right way.

Food for thought, yes? ;)

What is Chinese New Year without stuffing yourself silly with the the yummy goodies surrounded with people talking in happy chirpy tone, laughing heartily only to be broken by the sudden scream of huat ah from the gambling table.

This year, I am especially thankful. Thank God for keeping my grandparents healthy. CNY would never be the same if they aren't around.

It is a blessing to be playing in-between, blackjack till 5am on two nights with the cousins followed by a hearty Mac breakie and dim sum. These are the people that make festive seasons like this memorable and fun.

We all have our own life to lead, but the willingness to keep the family bonding close knitted keep us from leading a life too separate.

This year is also a little different because T came over to join us for three days in a row. ^^

Despite having a bad stomach flu and had to miss a few of the gatherings with friends, I still managed to indulge in loads of fun over at HBM's place and feel so lethargic that I had to skip Mayne's place the following day. :p

All in all, CNY is all about surrounding yourself with the people that brings the best out of you.

CNY mood is still happily thriving but, it's time to head back to reality and there's so much to do.

Hope y'all had a great one too and pssst, valentine day is around the corner, hopefully another memorable 23rd birthday awaits. :)

Date a girl who reads. Date a girl who spends her money on books instead of clothes, who has problems with closet space because she has too many books. Date a girl who has a list of books she wants to read, who has had a library card since she was twelve.

Find a girl who reads. You’ll know that she does because she will always have an unread book in her bag. She’s the one lovingly looking over the shelves in the bookstore, the one who quietly cries out when she has found the book she wants. You see that weird chick sniffing the pages of an old book in a secondhand book shop? That’s the reader. They can never resist smelling the pages, especially when they are yellow and worn.

She’s the girl reading while waiting in that coffee shop down the street. If you take a peek at her mug, the non-dairy creamer is floating on top because she’s kind of engrossed already. Lost in a world of the author’s making. Sit down. She might give you a glare, as most girls who read do not like to be interrupted. Ask her if she likes the book.

Buy her another cup of coffee.

Let her know what you really think of Murakami. See if she got through the first chapter of Fellowship. Understand that if she says she understood James Joyce’s Ulysses she’s just saying that to sound intelligent. Ask her if she loves Alice or she would like to be Alice.

It’s easy to date a girl who reads. Give her books for her birthday, for Christmas, for anniversaries. Give her the gift of words, in poetry and in song. Give her Neruda, Pound, Sexton, Cummings. Let her know that you understand that words are love. Understand that she knows the difference between books and reality but by god, she’s going to try to make her life a little like her favorite book. It will never be your fault if she does.

She has to give it a shot somehow.

Lie to her. If she understands syntax, she will understand your need to lie. Behind words are other things: motivation, value, nuance, dialogue. It will not be the end of the world.

Fail her. Because a girl who reads knows that failure always leads up to the climax. Because girls who read understand that all things must come to end, but that you can always write a sequel. That you can begin again and again and still be the hero. That life is meant to have a villain or two.

Why be frightened of everything that you are not? Girls who read understand that people, like characters, develop. Except in the Twilight series.

If you find a girl who reads, keep her close. When you find her up at 2 AM clutching a book to her chest and weeping, make her a cup of tea and hold her. You may lose her for a couple of hours but she will always come back to you. She’ll talk as if the characters in the book are real, because for a while, they always are.

You will propose on a hot air balloon. Or during a rock concert. Or very casually next time she’s sick. Over Skype.

You will smile so hard you will wonder why your heart hasn’t burst and bled out all over your chest yet. You will write the story of your lives, have kids with strange names and even stranger tastes. She will introduce your children to the Cat in the Hat and Aslan, maybe in the same day. You will walk the winters of your old age together and she will recite Keats under her breath while you shake the snow off your boots.

Date a girl who reads because you deserve it. You deserve a girl who can give you the most colorful life imaginable. If you can only give her monotony, and stale hours and half-baked proposals, then you’re better off alone. If you want the world and the worlds beyond it, date a girl who reads.

Or better yet, date a girl who writes.

It is so distracting to be siting at home this Monday afternoon with the CNY spirit all hyped up.

Mum just rejected a whole new set of sofa and made the delivery man sent it back to the furniture store as she wasn't satisfied with it.

Anyway, as I felt that time is running out faster than ever, I came to realized that for some, time is actually slowly down.

Yesterday, I went Starbucks to get my usual caffeine fix and spotted my 74 year old grandmother sipping coffee and chatting happily with one of her friend. I took a peek at what she's drinking and was genuinely surprised. Black coffee in Venti size, while her friend sipped ice water.

She decided to part with her friend upon seeing me and treated me to lunch. I am always popping by granny's place for dinner but come to think of it, I havent spent quality time alone with her.

Thank God for the opportunity and the reminder that, time wait for no one and I shouldn't be too pre-occupied with my own life and forgetting to spend time with my love ones.

I am so looking forward to CNY, where all the work come to a halt and people gather to spend the joyous occasion together.

Have a great week ahead as we look forward to something better the next! ;)

People often associate negative emotions such as dejection and depression as something to be shun away from.
If you are feeling down today, it is expected of you to not feel that way. Comforting words are directed at you to snap out of the negativity right away. It is an obligation to feel OK instantaneously.

Today, I just wanna say, it's perfectly ok to be not ok.

Most importantly, get positivism out of the negativity in your own pace, at your own time.

After the rain comes the rainbow, but remember, the transition of dark clouds into clear beautiful sky need some time as well.

It's definitely fine to be not ok today or tomorrow. Trust that okay will come soon. ;))

HAPPY NEW YEAR, Y'ALL!

New year eve was spent with my secondary school clique and amazingly we found a good spot for watching the fireworks!

Cheers to good health and another year of fun!

I honestly cannot believe that another year past, just like that.

It was such a good good year.

In 2011 I learnt that:

1. Trying to forge friendships through a common purpose and then bonding via boozing takes so much time and effort. The hard truth is, people will go their separate ways soon after the project is done.

2. The little nudges in life, reminds us of reality. Usually, I am constantly feeling happy and contented; it overcrowds my perspective. I forget that there is a future to fight for, the need to work harder.

3. The importance of being appreciative for the little things in life. We tend to expect too much out of people and forget how much they have done.

This coming year, I want to be more assertive and learn to take charge of my life. Making sure that I stick to priorities. :)

So looking forward to see how 2012 unfolds, knowing that God is always faithful.

Craving for some awesome Dim Sum and decided to give Royal China located at Raffles Hotel a try.

I would definitely go back again. Love the Tiffany Blue interior and the food is gooood!

Fell in love with their Custard Bun. Its the best damn thing! Craving for one right now.

You will know its good stuff when the prawns taste fresh and crunchy!

Went zouk with the gang yesterday and the music at Zouk and Velvet sucks big time. Never again. The thing is, the clubbers were enjoying themselves and swaying with the music. Maybe, its just me. Clubbing is so so so boring.
Meeting Ai and Tng after the 10th.T planned a small "surprise" staycation for us this weekend and am sure the night scenery outside the window will be awesommmmeee. Cant wait. Our first Xmas dinner booked, at Salt Grill and Sky Bar ( level 55 at ion).Then, annual dinner at Uncle's place on xmas itself. YAY!
This is a month of distraction. I solemnly promise to study during the weekdays. :'(

Goodbye November! The warm happy fuzzy feeling despite the cold weather simply because am
in the month I love most.
So excited for the parties, outings and a short getaway. This is indeed a happy month and tomorrow we are gonna dine at Raffles hotel for some smashing good dim sum to celebrate the end of his exams and to catch a movie.

Saturday- partying at Zouk with FH peeps as well as ivyg, hbm and gang. It will be fun!

Not forgetting the annual Christmas party with my family.

How time passes and it has been 7 years since I last went back.

The nostalgic feeling as take I tour around the school and retraced the steps as I walk down the memory lane...

As I look back, despite facing some hard times, Regent is still a place where I had my fondest memories.

It is where I explored my potential, made mistakes that I never thought I could have made, a place which taught me many life lessons.

No matter how much a high flyer you are, one mistake could destroy you and you get swept off the red carpet forever. It is also where I learnt how to soar, pick up the pieces, get the act together and survived.

It is also the place where I tasted how success could be the sweetest thing on earth and how disappointment can be so hard on the soul.

All in all, this is a place I grew up in, it shaped me to who I am today and no matter how much I have changed over the years, this is still the place, I will forever have a soft spot for.

It's Friday afternoon and am

preparing to head for ESAP lecture. Came across this article.

I have always known that happiness/joy should come from

within. Yet, I forget that unhappiness can also be generated from the insides. Very often, we get upset with things/people around us, we fail to realize that, maybe it's just us.

We tend to blame the external factors for the unhappiness in our hearts. which, very well may not be the case.

Let's embrace WTFact of the day: unhappiness can come from within, we should try and make ourselves feel happy instead of relying on people/things to give us that satisfaction.

People can disappoint you, but you should never let yourself down. ^^

Nursing a throbbing headache with constant jabs of pain from the minor surgery of extracting two wisdom teeth. There's still 3 more to go.

The 4 jabs (2 first then followed by another 2) I had today was considerably less painful then when the anesthesia wore off.

Anyhow, I have decided not to

participate in the private bash (no publicity allowed in school) 'cos my main concern is having to sell the tickets and i absolutely hateeeeeeee doing such stuff. :((

I have no idea why but pushing sales and selling tickets is a chore for me.

Le sigh!

This decision is such a social life suicide.

Ohwells, I think I can live with that.

P/S: Anyway, do support BASH and get tickets from them! The event will be held on the 24 of nov at Avatar.

According to the dramaturgical model, life is simply a series of performance.

Everyone is engaged in a performance, where impression management is used when we consciously or unconsciously orchestrate a carefully designed presentation of self to portray our ideal self.

When you are 'off-stage', you drop the facade and pretense

What if, one day, you realized that the the image you have been trying to portray becomes a little too hard to handle?

All you want to do is, to admit all your flaws.

I believe, as an individual,

we tend to magnify our shortcomings.

What if today I tell you, I am not that perfect after all?

As flawed as I can be, I am whole.

While we are too focus on playing the ideal self on the front stage, are we losing the ability to be truthful enough to admit our shortcomings and rectify our lives accordingly?

Or, will we be too lost in our own set of perfection that we forget that life is supposed to be imperfect.

My greatest accomplishment of the day is admitting I am flawed, proud of it and accepting it.

I hope am making sense while tying this at 2am in the morning.

Fun fact of the day: Driving on the road stresses me out especially during peak hours.

SO, on a lighter note, it is a need to feast on Japanese food once a week!

It is comforting yet depressing at the same time, with the soft humming of the wind and careless symphony of the rain.

The weather makes staying in and sleeping a much better option.

Anyway, am wondering if sleeping too much is the cause of feeling lethargic?

My concentration span is so short and my mind starts wandering after a few minutes.

It is a torture when you know there's so much to study and yet am not focusing.

I know I need to focus, but how?

So not looking forward to the weekends knowing that I have to attend lecture on a Saturday.

The only plus point is, Soci seems interesting enough.

November will come and pass.

Why is time so not on my side?

Yes, motivation gets you started and habit keeps you going.

I so need to kick start the habit of focusing.

Too many commitments is so draining and annoying.

For once in my life, I realized that am never good at multi-tasking.

Went for brunch with T at Strictly Pancakes, even if you are not a fan of pancakes it is always worth a try!

Really nice of him to take time off studying, 'cos Ntu peeps are having lots of quizzes and project deadline to meet. :)

Oh, am gonna have the surgery on the 10th of Nov. One surgery and three extraction.

Fright night was fun with awesome peeps!

Meet up with the Bs today, been awhile!

It's 1.41 am now and I just came home from a well spent time with T after dinner with Bs. Waiting for Tuesday to come and it's to cuppage/strictly pancakes depending on my cravings! ;)

Oh, and I need to shop desperately, good retail therapy needed minus the fact that am waiting for some packages to arrive. ^^

It will be a good week thanks to PH on weds. Cheers to lecture-less days.

Anyway, had to give the Halloween event at flyer a miss thanks to the stupid make-up lesson. Feeling real moody and guess what, T came to crash my lecture and answered the prof when she asked question.

Embarrassing much 'cos, in UOL we don't participate. Culture difference eh.

I have been real busy, trying really hard to cope with studies and SRC. Too many events going on and I really can't wait for Bash to be over! Haven't even had time for movie for the past two weeks! :(

But still, I get to chill after lessons, thanks to T who braved the traffic and picked me up from school.

( He hates the jam, all drivers do but he exceptionally hates it. Hahahaha.)

Started Monday with driving on the road for 1 hour and it made me sooo sleepy.

Almost beat the red light, jammed break in time.

Then, am supposed to be reading up, which i will after this post. :(

Wondering why am I feeling so lethargic lately, maybe its the lack of exercise.

I realized that I put emotional well-being ( in my case, happiness) above all else.
Basing my decision on how happy I will be.
When I decide not to do something because I don't feel happy about it, some people may deem this as giving up.
But the fact that, I still see people gritting their teeth doing something they hate and still decide not to drop the case triggered some self- reflections.
Maybe, it is true that there are some flaws in putting happiness as the basis for decisions.
Happiness is an unrealistic measure in this rational society.

So, for once, I decided to let my happiness be a back-seater, with some compensations of course.
Instead of Corporate Finance or Econometrics which totally bores the hell out of me, am taking Sociology and ESAPsychology.

Still, I am happy in a way. C:

After AGM, the Westies went for an impromptu supper at 163!

Called Ruben and he came down to join us. :)

Its amazing how bonds can be forge through supper-ing and having long HTHT till 4am in the morning.

The 24hr dim sum, I would say the food is not fantastic but still, good enough.

We waited 2hrs for the Ke Kou Mian! Heard a lot of raves about it and that's the main reason why we waited till 2am!

Each seat cost 500sgd, all the proceeds will go to them. :)

A sudden thought, am feeling happy all these while and I forgot that am happy because being happy everyday becomes a norm. The simplest things, made me smile, jokes make me laugh heartily. Oh, summer holidays, you have been real good minus work.

Looking forward to the following week for aweeeesome dates, can't wait can't wait.

Speech written for the graduating class of 2008, by Adrian Tan, guest-of-honour at NTU Convocation Ceremony.

"Work is anything that you are compelled to do. By its very nature, it is undesirable.
Work kills. The Japanese have a term “Karoshi”, which means death from overwork. That’s the most dramatic form of how work can kill. But it can also kill you in more subtle ways. If you work, then day by day, bit by bit, your soul is chipped away, disintegrating until there’s nothing left. A rock has been ground into sand and dust.
There’s a common misconception that work is necessary. You will meet people working at miserable jobs. They tell you they are “making a living”. No, they’re not. They’re dying, frittering away their fast-extinguishing lives doing things which are, at best, meaningless and, at worst, harmful.
People will tell you that work ennobles you, that work lends you a certain dignity. Work makes you free. The slogan “Arbeit macht frei” was placed at the entrances to a number of Nazi concentration camps. Utter nonsense.
Do not waste the vast majority of your life doing something you hate so that you can spend the small remainder sliver of your life in modest comfort. You may never reach that end anyway.
Resist the temptation to get a job. Instead, play. Find something you enjoy doing. Do it. Over and over again. You will become good at it for two reasons: you like it, and you do it often. Soon, that will have value in itself."

I remembered how these few stores were crowded with people when I visited with my friends during Secondary Two days.

After a few years....

This cup of Koi looks out of place here.

Time leaves everything behind, good/bad memories, people move on, buildings gets abandoned, demolished to make way for bigger things.

Like this old man, we can only learn to guard what is important to us even when people no longer remembers; cos some place/people can never be replaced.

Life is pretty good so far; smooth sailing in all aspect. Just that, I need a new vision and a breakthrough to spice things alil. ;)
